When you are new to Linux and have hands-on experience with Windows you might wonder how the functionality of both worlds is. In next then no time you can go on-line, write and receive your Gmail, chat with friends or use the Office system. Even changing your whole desktop-appearance, not just a few parts, suddenly becomes a snap. Yet, inexorably the moment will come that you encounter a 'silly problem' that only can be solved by delving through the Linux file system. Different from C:\WINDOWS is its organization, but not so much that you can't understand things. In fact you'll understand the contents of the Linux FS much better. Most of its files are 'text'-files that become executed and can be changed with ease, which requires some caution at first. What's where is often asked. Let us take a look... For many Linux is the Swiss Knife amongst Operating Systems. It allows to use a large number of filing systems, from journaling to exotic cryptographic. Hardly 2 Linux installations are exactly the same. To make a 'virus' for it is by virtue of its protocol the most stupid and time-wasting paste-time one can imagine. Linux can be defined as a 'protocol', defining the way how data is manip

Linux Foundation launches major open-source license compliance program BOSTON, Mass. -- The Linux Foundation, the non-profit organization dedicated to supporting Linux, announced on Aug. 10 at LinuxCon the launch of the Open Compliance Program, a comprehensive initiative to help companies and developers comply with open-source licenses. You may not know it, but getting businesses and developers to obey open-source licenses has become a much bigger problem over the years. I'm not talking about the differences between GPLv2 and GPLv3. I'm talking about companies using open-source code and not realizing that they can't just use it any way they want. This has become a problem because almost every major company is now using Linux and open-source software. That's both the good and bad news. With so many companies using and, more important, incorporating free and open-source software (FOSS) in their products, there's lots of room for businesses to make big mistakes. |

To ensure this code release, Wilco Jansen resorted to sending rum to joint lead-developer Johan Janssens. Johan, who's had a penchant for rum ever since the first "Pirate's of the Caribbean" movie screened, took the bait, mixed it with Cola, and here we are with our latest 1.5 release. It looks like pirate talk will figure quite a lot in future Joomla! development! |
